Job Description

The Head Coach oversees all competitive youth programming, including the Comp and Devo Teams. The Head Coach works closely with the Programs Manager and the Youth Recreation Program Coordinator to achieve program goals and promote program continuity. The Head Coach works toward the program’s achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, and strategies.

Areas of Responsibility


Comp & Devo Team Coaching:
Lead competitive youth skiing in Crested Butte by directing the Comp and Devo CB Nordic programs.

  • Direct and coordinate year-round training and competition schedule to develop a nationally competitive nordic ski program.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive environment for all athletes and coaches.
  • Develop individualized goals, training, and relationships with CBNT athletes.
  • Hire, manage, and mentor Comp and Devo coaching staff, including the Assistant Comp Team Coach, Devo Head Coach, and volunteer coaches.
  • Apply the latest knowledge and methodologies in nordic ski training.
  • In collaboration with applicable coaches, plan all aspects of team race weekends, including lodging and travel plans for approximately 50 athletes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Programs Manager and Youth Recreation
    Program Coordinator to create an excellent youth programming experience for the Crested Butte Nordic community.

Program Administration:

  • Ensure CBNT is compliant with all applicable US Ski and Snowboard (USSS), and Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
  • oIn accordance with USSS requirements, attain USSS coaching license, L100 coaching certification, and ongoing continuing education credits.
  • oRepresent CBNT in the RMN organization.
  • oComplete and maintain CPR/First Aid certification through an accredited
    organization (i.e. Red Cross, AHA, NSCWMA).
  • oReport any violations of CBNC or USSS policies (including, but not limited to,
    SafeSport violations) in compliance with organizational procedures.
  • oTogether with the Finance Manager and Executive Director, develop the annual CBNTBudget.
  • oWork to ensure CBNT program adheres to budget and communicate potential significant overages to Programs Manager.
  • Maintain communication with local newspapers to ensure effective dissemination of information and promotion of CBNT’s activities.

Organizational Support:

  • All year-round and salaried staff should expect to contribute evening and weekend hours to events, clinics and/or fundraising gatherings to work towards organizational success.
  • Works to grow CB Nordic Center by being a superior role model and community representative.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Annual salary is $32,000 - $38,000, based on experience.
  • oGiven the seasonal nature of the position, and the duties of the job, there will be some weeks that are more than 40 hours/week, and will include evenings and weekends. The CBNT Head Coach is expected to schedule their own office hours, breaks, and days off to ensure that they are working an average of 30-40 hours per week between November and March and an average of 15-25 hours per week between April and October.
  • A 5% performance bonus is provided.
  • A 3% IRA match contribution is made by CB Nordic after one year of employment.
  • Up to 6 weeks of paid vacation may be scheduled between events. Federal, state, and local holidays may be observed when they do not fall during CB Nordic Events.
