"We Live and Cook Together as a Team"

Hi SkiPost Community! The Gold Team is currently in Park City, Utah for a dryland camp with athletes from the US Ski Team, APU, Stratton, and BSF. The US Team is here for a full two-week camp, and we came over from Sun Valley for the week to hit some key intensity sessions, speeds, and time trials. It’s awesome to be able to group up and work together with so many athletes from around the country, and there’s great positive energy with everyone pushing each other and encouraging one another. Some serious winter weather rolled in at the beginning of the week, and we woke up to snow in Park City and rain at the Soldier Hollow rollerski track. We were able to do a great classic speed workout on rollerskis in the morning, and we got in a little golf course snow ski in the afternoon.

In addition to the many workouts at training camp, we live and cook together as a team. We all keep breakfasts pretty simple with oatmeal or eggs, and lunches are mostly sandwiches. Dinners, however, are more exciting. Some of our go-to meals are tacos, curries, and pastas, but every now and then we get a bit more creative. Generally, when time is limited by a second training session, we stick to the classics because they’re relatively fast to cook, nutritious, tasty, and accommodating of any food allergies. No pictures of the curry I made with Peter and Peter the other night, but Chris, Sarah, and Karl prepared some delicious fish tacos featuring a mango salsa. Key ingredients to this meal are tortillas, white fish, cabbage (or coleslaw), avocado, and a salsa or sauce. From there, the options are endless and sometimes include beans, corn, or other vegetables.

Yum!

This camp in Park City marks the beginning of quite a bit of travel for our team. We’ll have two weeks at home before heading north to Frozen Thunder in Canmore, Alberta. This is an all-time favorite camp of mine, and I’m really looking forward to getting up there after we weren’t able to do so last year. Frozen Thunder is the first on-snow camp of the fall, and there are some competitive time trials at the end. From there, it’s only a couple of weeks at home before Thanksgiving and the season opener race at West Yellowstone, and then the first SuperTour races in Duluth and Cable. It’s all coming up fast and the whole team is really looking forward to it!

Looking forward to lots more of this soon!
