The Upcoming Race Season
December races that were supposed to happen in Sun Valley, ID. Rightfully so, many of the organizing committees do not believe they can successfully host an event with effective social distancing and safety precautions. There are talks of moving the early December FIS races that were supposed to happen in Sun Valley to Bozeman and limiting field sizes. As with most sporting events in 2020, a lot of things are still up in the air.
The World Cup is scheduled as planned, except for Lillehammer which has been postponed until further notice. It has been postponed because the organizers do not feel it is safe enough to host that event in the current climate. Much of Central Europe is going back into lock down right now, so we will have to wait and see what happens with the rest of the schedule for the later races on the calendar.
In the US, the later season races are still planned as normal. With cases on the rise nationwide, we will have to wait and see what the organizing committees decide as we get closer to them. If the Bozeman races end up happening and are safe and successful, I’m sure they will be used as a template moving forward throughout the race season.
Naturally, we all want to compete in as many races as possible, but it's going to be important to keep our own and our communities' health in mind as we move into winter. There is a lot of skiing to be done locally and we may have to hunker down and keep fueling the fire before we are able to race safely again.
