Let the Wild Cheering & Glitter Continue

“The crowd was cheering so loudly I couldn’t even hear myself breathe” – Johannes Klaebo

If you’ve been to a cross-country ski race in Norway, you know exactly what Klaebo means. At the World Championships in Trondheim, Norway this week, the Granåsen Ski Center grandstands and course are packed with over 25,000 raucous fans – their cheering deafening. In Norway, the fans are so dedicated, they’ll stand for hours in the pouring rain to see their favorite skiers glide by for a moment.

Guests on Lumi’s Trondheim World Championships trip are right in the middle of one of the biggest celebrations of skiing. Cheering hometown hero Klaebo to three victories to date has been unforgettable -- they even got to meet Haakon Klaebo, father of Johannes. The wild cheering continued for Lumi trip leader Silje, chief of course marshals for the World Championships (< check out this video!), who will be leading Lumi’s Norway-Birken trip at the Holmenkollen & Norwegian Birkebeiner next week!

Stars, stripes, and glitter!

It’s inspiring to see even the non-hometown heroes having hugely successful performances despite Trondheim’s tricky coastal conditions which make nailing the perfect race wax a challenge. Lumi sponsored athlete Julia Kern’s hard work to finish in the top 5 in the Women’s Sprint Final reminds me of when she and Jessie pulled the field apart in the Team Sprint at the last World Champs in Planica, Slovenia: tip-to-tip with the best cross-country skiers from around the world. Lumi is thrilled to support her on her journey – go Julia!!

Hooray for fresh snowfall!

Before, during and after the events, Lumi veteran trip leader and 2x Olympian Holly Brooks has been sharing her insider knowledge of the athletes and races as well as her boundless energy, smiles and glitter with guests. Alongside Holly, trip leader Linda who is a retired biathlete and Trondheim local is passionate about sharing her biathlon and Trondheim expertise with the group.

Beyond soaking up the electric atmosphere during the races, Lumi guests took a sunset boat ride along the Trondheim fjord to learn about the city’s fishing heritage and see its colorful, waterfront buildings. Linda led a biathlon lesson – a new experience for most guests who are familiar with cross-country skiing, but adding the rifle marksmanship was an entirely new experience. Comparing notes about the day’s excitement over a Norwegian meal, sometimes followed by attending the medal ceremonies, has been a fun way to unwind in the evenings.

The celebration continues in Trondheim this week! If you wish you were there in person, don’t miss the festivities at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games next winter – for a chance to cheer for your favorite world-class skiers, get an insider’s look at the races with Lumi’s expert trip leaders, and have an unforgettable winter ski adventure in Italy’s stunning Dolomites region. The energy, the fans and the skiing awaits!
