Head Nordic Coach – St. Michael’s College
St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, seeks a Head Men’s and Women’s Nordic Ski Coach to lead its program in alignment with the school’s mission and athletic philosophy. Responsibilities include creating a safe and supportive environment for student-athletes, ensuring academic excellence and fostering strong coach-athlete relationships. The coach is expected to develop and implement a year-round training program, manage roster size, and oversee recruitment efforts, ensuring timely communication with prospective students and admissions.
The role also involves daily practice planning, coaching and waxing at competitions, and maintaining a comprehensive recruiting database. Additional duties include promoting academic success, supporting student-athlete development, and engaging the team in community service and department-wide events. The coach must effectively manage team expenses, oversee equipment needs, and coordinate special trips and training camps with administrative approval.
St. Michael’s College races in the competitive Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) conference. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least five seasons of Nordic skiing coaching experience at the collegiate, professional, or National level. A US Ski and Snowboard L100 certification, CPR and First Aid certifications, and eligibility to drive college vehicles are required. The position demands flexibility for extensive travel, irregular hours, and the ability to work in varying outdoor conditions. Additionally, collaboration with the Head Alpine Coach to supervise the new Kelley Ski Center is expected.
