Big Climbs and Salted Baguettes

Ski to the Sun Race Recap

This weekend the Factory Team headed over to the Methow Valley to compete in the Ski to the Sun 40k. Ski to the Sun is a newer marathon, and one that has been our bucket list for a few years. The Methow Valley has incredible trails and we were excited to explore a new place.

Ski to the SUN did not skimp on the “sun” or the pristine trail conditions.

The course starts in Mazama and works its way down the valley before climbing 10k all the way up to the Sun Mountain Lodge. The final climb is no joke! But the view of the valley and the Cascades from the summit is well worth the effort. Annika and Simon had great races, and both walked (skied?) away as Ski to the Sun champions. Simon led the race from the start, with Annika leading the chase pack (both men and women started together in wave 1). The final climb gave both Factory Team athletes the chance to dig deep and pull away from the field to finish 1st and 4th overall. It was a beautiful day for a ski race.

In typical fashion, Annika and Simon capped off their weekend with a post-race backcountry ski and, of course, a salted baguette from the Mazama Store and a Cinnamon Twisp.

Ski to the Sun is an incredible event and we hope it continues to grow and become a staple of the domestic marathon circuit. We are especially appreciative of Laura McCabe and the Bjornsens at Winthrop Mountain Sports for helping support Annika and Simon with housing and wax service.

We can’t wait to be back next year, and hopefully bring a few of you with us!
