A Tribute to Dads on the Trails
Father’s Day is just a few days away. Here’s to all the dads who inspire us, both on and off the trail!
Traveling with parents, or with kids, is an opportunity to create special memories. On a personal note, one of my highlights from last winter was a long weekend in Seiser Alm with my parents. We’ve been traveling abroad to ski together since I was a child. In the beginning for me, my parents took the lead on our vacations, and I was along for the ride – both figuratively and literally. Today I love sharing my favorite places to ski with them when we travel together, whether that’s skiing the Fossavatn in Iceland with my dad in 2024 (and reminiscing on memories from the Kangaroo Hoppet in Australia in 2010 when I was still racing professionally), or simply enjoying a relaxed weekend of sight-skiing in Seiser Alm in 2026.

I especially enjoy the fine art of slowing down and enjoying quiet moments on our travels, which is something we strive to include in each Lumi trip. Whether that’s watching the sunset over the Schlern dolomite formation from our hotel’s balcony in Seiser Alm or spending a little extra time at lunch, knowing that someone else is preparing our meals and cleaning up, so we can simply enjoy the time together without the added responsibility. Being able to share those moments with loved ones makes the trip that much sweeter.
I love seeing similar experiences for our guests on Lumi trips. Watching parents and their adult children spend time together and catching up in an environment where neither has responsibilities to host is really special.
In honor of Father’s Day, we’d like to highlight a few father/child pairings from Lumi’s trips this past season. It’s fun to look back on how many families traveled on Lumi trips in 2026:
Djupedal, Christenson & Barmann Families
Patriarch Eivind Djupedal organized a family and friends trip to the Lavazé Loppet with Lumi this past winter. Three generations skied the scenic trails at Passo Lavazé in Italy as part of their self-organized club: the International Frogs in the Forest. You can ski Passo Lavazé on several Lumi trips, including the Tour de Ski and Marcialonga & König Ludwig Lauf trips. Their matching green frog ski suits were a hit!

The Barmann family skis in the Lavazé Loppet under blue skies and stunning mountain peaks.

The Frogs in the Forest group is made up of three families spanning three generations.
Jonathan & Evan
Jonathan and his brother Dave were slated to room together on Lumi’s Norway Birken trip until Evan decided to join his dad Jonathan on the trip as well. Together with their cousin Alice, the whole family found scenic trails from Oslo to Lillehammer and challenged themselves on one of biggest Worldloppet races on the circuit.
“My son Evan really enjoyed skiing with trip leader Maria. Our trip leaders were so cheerful and fun to be with. We loved their Norwegian lessons.” - Jonathan

Greg & Laura
Greg’s daughter Laura joined him in Seiser Alm this past winter to explore some of Italy’s most scenic trails.
“Amazing! What an experience to ski at Seiser Alm! Who can complain?” - Laura

Laura and her father Greg had a great time exploring the trails on Seiser Alm
Scott & Kyrsten
Scott and his daughter Kyrsten, who lives in Norway, met up on Lumi’s Dolomitenlauf & Marcialonga trip to Austria and Italy last winter to ski together. The two skied with each other in the snowiest Marcialonga in generations, capping off an eventful week exploring trails with each other.
“Lumi trips accommodate a variety of activities. They are great for any active winter lover, whether a top athlete or one who loves exploring cultures in amazing places.” - Scott

Scott and his daughter Kyrsten soaked up the scenery at Passo Lavazé outside of Cavalese
Jeff & Tim
Jeff brought his son Tim along for a memorable trip to Italy, where the two had the chance to ski the Passo Lavazé trails, surrounded by some of the best skiers in the world out training. They also enjoyed the company of their local, expert trip leaders.
“Raphi is incredibly organized as a trip leader and communicator. He was tremendously knowledgeable about the region, including the state of European skiing and why Austria excels at downhill and not cross-country at international competitions. His German was really useful!” - Jeff

Jeff and his son Tim enjoyed skiing the scenic trails of Passo Lavazé
Tom & Erik
Erik joined his dad Tom on Lumi’s Dolomitenlauf & Marcialonga trip (their second Lumi trip together after skiing the 2024 Birken in Norway), where they skied in two Worldloppet races and enjoyed each other’s company on the trails. The trip was extra special because it overlapped with Erik’s birthday!
“Experiencing the traditions and skiing culture of the areas we visited was a highlight, especially being able to do so with my son. The scenery along the routes we skied was breathtaking.” - Tom

The views from Passo Lavazé impressed Tom and Erik as much as the trails did

Will's daughters Celia and Abby joined him on a Lumi trip in Italy this past winter.
