Ski in Iceland THIS APRIL, your chance to ski the Fossavatn

Ski season doesn’t have to finish in March! Extend your glide into April this winter on Lumi Experiences’ Iceland - Fossavatn group trip.

We’re thrilled to launch this new trip to the land of fire and ice. Exploration awaits, both by ski and on foot, visiting waterfalls and volcanic craters, relaxing in outdoor hot springs, skiing above the fjords and even the opportunity to ski the Fossavatn Worldloppet Ski Marathon.

Reach out to info@lumiexperiences.com to receive the full trip itinerary and save your spot on this special trip, plus take $300 off before November 30, 2023.

If the name “Fossavatnsgangan” sounds familiar (bonus points for correct pronunciation by the end of the trip!), you’ve probably heard about the trek to reach Ísafjörður, Iceland where the Fossavatn (for short) ski marathon has been held since 1935. Most Fossavatn skiers rent a car and make the long drive themselves or take another flight to the small coastal town of Ísafjörður to ski the final Worldloppet of the season. But when you’re in the land of fire and ice there is so much to see along the way! The itinerary is an adventure in itself…

On the Iceland - Fossavatn group trip the scenic journey from urban Reykjavik to the strikingly beautiful Westfjords region is an opportunity to relax and take in the views of the rugged countryside from our private transfer northward. Along the way, marvel at waterfalls, volcanic craters and fjords. Spend the night in a peaceful and remote town on the northern coast. Stretch your legs on a stroll or ski (depending on snow conditions) through the Icelandic landscapefrom right outside your family-run hotel. In the evening, take in the stars and perhaps even the Northern Lights from the natural hot springs just steps from your room.

After a traditional Icelandic breakfast, traverse the northern coastline of the Westfjords to Ísafjörður, where you’ll have the chance to settle into your home for the next four nights in a new hotel in the heart of town. From your cozy and brightly decorated room, enjoy the views of the dramatic landscape as you prepare for the optional Fossavatn 25 km skate event at sunset.

More skiing awaits before the main Fossavatn event: Iceland's longest running and most popular ski marathon, with perhaps the best views on the Worldloppet circuit. Clip into your skis and explore Ísafjörður’s groomed cross-country ski trails that overlook the fjord for which the village is named. Afterwards, celebrate with your travel companions and other Worldloppet skiers at the Fossavatn’s end-of-season dinner party, a highlight for many, with delicious local seafood, music and dancing.

The scenic drive back to Reykajvik would not be complete without a stop for Icelandic waffles at one of the smallest farmhouses in Iceland and a dip in a geothermal pool on the shore of a fjord – surely a treat for your muscles after the “Fossavatnsgangan”, which will roll off your tongue by the time we’re back in Reykajvik.

Enjoy an adventure through the land of fire and ice with all the support you expect on a Lumi trip: expert, local trip leaders, included transportation, race waxing and cultural activities along the way as you extend your ski season into April.

Reach out soon for a detailed trip itinerary. We are offering an early-booking discount of $300/person for all bookings before November 30 on the 2024 Iceland-Fossavatn trip.

I hope to see you in the land of Fire & Ice!
